Announcing the finalists for the 2024 Car of the Year Award – Cars, the first Arab automotive website
Cars – The nominees for the 2024 World Car of the Year (WCOTY) Awards have been announced. A total of 36 cars are competing for the award. All vehicles in competition must be produced in quantities of at least 10,000 units per year. It must be offered in at least two large markets (such as China, the US, Europe and India) on two separate continents. Finally, these vehicles must be on sale between January 1, 2022 and March 30, 2023.
This year, 15 Chinese-made vehicles made it to the list. Three of them are from BYD, including Seal’s car. It is a fully electric sedan that competes with the Tesla Model 3.
Other Chinese cars in contention include the Haval H6, New ET5 and Zyker X. The latter model is closely related to the Volvo EX30, another vehicle in the WCOTY race. Electric cars dominate the list of potential winners. Possible examples of wins include the Volkswagen ID.7, Abarth 500e, Fisker Ocean, Kia EV9, and Hyundai Kona Electric.
Mitsubishi’s best model in years, the Outlander, will compete with the Ford Bronco, Mazda CX-50 and CX-90, Hyundai Santa Fe, and Toyota Prius. According to the WCOTY Awards, vehicles in the Electric Vehicle, Urban Vehicle and High Performance Vehicle categories can also be entered into the competition for World Car of the Year. All WCOTY finalists are also automatically entered into this year’s World Car Design Award.
Last year, the Hyundai IONIQ 6 not only scooped the overall award, but also took home the Electric Car of the Year and Design of the Year awards. In 2022, IONIQ 5 won the title. The Hyundai designer also received the World Car Person Award last year.
