Diesel ban reduces Algerians’ options for new cars – Cars Live

The Algerian government’s decision to ban the import of tourist diesel cars has affected Algerians’ choice in purchasing new cars.

There is a wide segment of Algerians who love diesel engines because of their power, sturdiness, and fuel economy.

With the beginning of the marketing of many new brands, such as Fiat, Chery, Geely and Opel, tourist cars were introduced that were available with gasoline engines only, with a capacity between 1.2 and 1.5 liters and a power between 110 and 170 hp.

While the government allowed the import of utility vehicles with diesel engines, many Algerians believe that prohibiting the import of diesel engines affected their hesitation in purchasing new tourist cars, especially with the rise in gasoline prices.
