In March 2023, the Saudi government decided to extend the deadline for dropping old and damaged cars, as it was officially decided to continue the initiative.

The text of the Saudi Council of Ministers’ approval for the continuation of the initiative was as follows: “Approval to extend the corrective period granted to owners of neglected or damaged vehicles who wish to drop those vehicles from their records stipulated in Clause (Third) of Council of Ministers Resolution No. 99 dated 7/ 2/1443 AH, for an additional year starting on 3/1/2023 AD.

With regard to free drop-off during the correction period, the Saudi General Traffic Department had confirmed that drop-off procedures are carried out for free and without fines during the current period. She said: “Whoever transfers ownership of his damaged and neglected car to shops that sell cars whose registration has been canceled (repair) or approved iron press shops within the corrective period will be exempt from the fees and fines resulting from them.”

In other words, the period for dropping off cars without fees continues until March 2024, with fines and fees being collected once this period expires.
