Why did the new electric Ram Charger 2025 get a V6 engine? – Al-Murabba Net

Al Muraba Net – A few days ago, we followed the launch of the all-new Ram electric truck, called the Ram Charger 1500, to become the second electric truck for the American brand, but there are some questions about this new truck that combines the traditional Ram 1500 that relies on internal combustion engines and the fully electric Ram 1500 Rev. These questions begin with the role of the internal combustion engine in the new truck.
The role of the V6 engine in the 2025 Ram Charger 1500 truck
The all-new Ram Charger truck relies on a 6-cylinder engine with a capacity of 3.6 liters, which works only on generating electrical power to enhance the range of movement of the electric truck. The engine is not connected to the wheels in any way, so this truck cannot be described as a hybrid, as it relies entirely on electric motors to move it.
Although it relies on a V6 engine to generate power for electric motors, the Ram Charger has a medium-sized battery pack compared to other electric trucks and large compared to many electric cars, with a capacity of 92 kilowatt-hours, which, combined with the internal combustion engine, provides the ability to reach… A range of movement exceeding 1,100 kilometers on a single charge of the batteries and filling the fuel tank.
It is worth noting that the Ram Charger Electric has a pair of electric motors with a total power of 663 horsepower and 899 Nm of torque, accelerating from rest to 96 km/h in 4.4 seconds, with the ability to tow 6,350 tons, outperforming competing electric trucks.
Why did the Ram Charger get a 6-cylinder engine instead of a smaller engine?
Ram is not the first brand to use an internal combustion engine in an electric car for the purpose of generating power only. Rather, there are many brands that have launched cars with the same system as well, but Ram differs in its use of a 3.6-liter six-cylinder engine, where it is usually used. Much smaller engines than this to complete this simple task.
In fact, there is a 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder engine from the Stellantis lineup that could have been used as well, but according to statements by Trevor Dorches, a Ram spokesman, the V6 engine was chosen for several reasons, the most prominent of which is superior towing capacity, as the engine operates with more power. It generates electrical power for the dual motors so that it can generate the appropriate force to complete the towing process without problems.
In addition to enhancing maximum towing capacity, Dorches believes that there are some concerns regarding vibration, harshness, and noise from small engines, so the V6 engine was one of the most prominent choices because there is no need to press so hard on the engine that it starts to emit annoying noise or vibrations in order to generate electrical power. Sufficient to charge the battery and support the electric motors.
